Far Cry New Dawn Review (PS4)

Far Cry New Dawn is a direct sequel too Far Cry 5. This spin-off takes place 17 years after FC5, proving the "Resist" ending too be the canon ending too Far Cry 5. This review will point what I enjoyed... and what I didn't enjoy.

Might as well start off with what I enjoyed about FC:ND. I enjoyed the setting of Hope County 17 years after the Collapse. FC5 Hope County is a lush place too be, full of life. Hope County 17 years later. Nature is in a full comeback as plants (known as a Super Bloom) are a bright white and pink across some of Hope County. Also former places too visit in Hope County are changed like Falls End and Hope County Jail just too name a few.

It also made me happy too see at least of few FC5 characters survive like Hurk, Sharky and Grace. As well learning of the fate of a few others. But it is nice too find out.

The weapons are also nice. They look like DIY stuff that actually works. Level 1 weapons are rusty and have poor performance stats. They also reload much slower then higher level weapons. Worth getting newer and better weapons ASAP. I also like the resource management/ collecting. The more you have the better weapons and extra you can get. Besides it gives me an excuse too explore Hope County and do Expeditions. Speaking of Expeditions you get too leave Hope County and travel around America. Which is fun, seeing the world outside of Hope County makes the Collapse seem all the more real. Swaps, Canyons and a Amusement park are just a few places you can visit (only 7 of them total).

Anything and everything you get from killing, exploring and taking over Outposts can be used too help build up Prosperity. Formally known as the Seed Ranch (owned by John Seed). Survivors came too together too fix it up after sometime of being abandoned during the Collapse. Ethanol is the only way too make Prosperity bigger and better. Higher levels require more Ethanol. Ethanol is your main currency in FC:ND along with other resources. You can get Ethanol from supply drops, liberating Outposts (you can scavange them, they will re-captured and you liberate them again for more Ethanol rewards) and getting Ethanol trucks back too either Prosperity or a captured outpost (you can also get bonus Ethanol for liberating an outpost with been seeing and not triggering an alarm). There are however more rare materials that can only be acquired by doing Expeditions, finding safes and liberating higher level Outposts. These materials are needed too get the best weapons in the game.

Perks are also in FC:ND but with a change. Instead of getting from just completing challenges and Prepper stashes. Challenges and Stashes are still present but you can also get them from freeing Hostages from the Highwaymen. You can also upgrade certain ones for more ammo, better stamina for spiriting/swimming/hold your breath. You can also get special Perks called Eden's Gift. These special perks give you the ability too hide form enemies easier, double jump and make you invincible for a short time. These are useful later in the game once you get them.

The voice acting is top notch as is the music. Graphics are also great, Ubisoft deserves credit for changing the color pallet and making you play with the Deputy from FC5 (now named The Judge).

However there are problems with FC:ND. The Tier Combat System is lame. I really don't have much of an issue with the RPG style elements of FC;ND but this one I do. Once the enemies gain a level your lower level weapons are useless. Josephs son Ethan comes out of left field. Since FC:ND is a direct sequal too FC5 there should have been more information on him then, not now. It appears that Joseph even knew too a certain point about Ethan. Also the leaders of the Highwaymen (Mickey and Lou) are poorly written. We only know a little bit about them and they poorly written.

This game suffers from 3 things. One is burnout. FC5 has only been out less then a year before New Dawn was released. People are still playing (and modding) FC5. Ubisoft left FC5 too rot too get FC:ND out. Fans are burnout as am I yes I bought the game (like I have some of the other spin-offs). The second thing the game suffers from is poor writing. Like FC5 there is so much potential in the story itself but just comes up short. The 3rd and final thing why not just make this a DLC too Far Cry 5? The game itself is 40 dollars and some DLCs are about if not a little cheaper then that. So why not just add too the DLCs of Far Cry 5? Oh wait I know why.... $$$$$

The overall game gets a B. Could be so much better if it didn't fall onto itself a few times and be brought out within one year of Far Cry 5. I enjoy the game don't get me wrong but i'm not blind too the faults it has.
