Twisted Metal 2012 PS3 Review

The Twisted Metal series is known for crazy car combat with colorful characters and vehicles too match. But also a rather dark and twisted "be careful what you wish for" sense of humor too it. This game is the latest (and most likely the last) installment in the series.

Basic idea: The whole idea of Twisted Metal is too destroy other cars on your way too getting too the end. However you can pick up weapons (missiles, mines and the like). Each car also has a special weapon. It has unlimited uses but only can be used 3 times and it must recharge. Game also has 3 difficulty levels; normal, hard and twisted.

Plot: A man named Calypso holds his annual Twisted Metal Tournament. With the winner getting one wish. No matter the scale, good or evil or whether it fits into reality. (unlike the past games only 3 characters are selectable) Sweet Tooths wish is too find "the one that got away" his daughter that survived his murderous rampage that killed his family. Mr. Grimm is too go back in time and stop his father from going a stunt that killed him. And Dollfaces wish is too become the worlds most famous super model.

Cars: Most the cars in this game have been in previous games with a few new ones.

Sweet Tooth: Based off a Chevy Step Van. Average speed, Good armor and great special weapons

Outlaw: Based off a 1999 Ford Explore. Below average speed, average armor and average special weapons.

Junkyard Dog: Based off a 1995 GMC Topkick. Below average speed, Good armor and good specials (has 3 different versions).

Roadkill: Based off a 1969 Chevy Camaro. Average speed, below average armor and average special weapon.

Crimson Fury: Based off a 2002 Ferrari Enzo: Great speed, terrible armor, Great special weapon.

Shadow: Based off a 1960 Edsel Villager. Below average speed, average armor and below average special weapon.

Darkside: Based off a Peterbilt 359. Below average speed, good armor and good specials. (one of the coolest specials as well.)

Warthog: A mix a tank bottom with a station wagon strapped too the top (station wagon is Ford Country Squire.) Below average speed, good armor and average specials.

Axel: A unique car if it can be called that. Below average speed, average armor and average special weapon.

Death Warrant: Based off a 2007 Ford Shelby GT500. Average speed and armor but below average special weapon.

Kamikaze: Based off a Audi R8. Great speed, below average armor and good special weapon.

Road Boat: Based off a 1972 Chevy Biscayne. Below average speed, average speed and armor.

Reaper: Based on a Harley-Davidson Chopper. Good speed, weakest armor in the game, and the best special in the game.

Meat Wagon: Based on a 1959 Cadillac Ambulance Miller-Meteor Futura. Below average speed, average armor and special weapons.

Vermin: Based on a Ford Econoline van. Average armor and speed but below average special weapons.

Talon: A helicopter (first for the series). Good speed, terrible armor and good special weapons.

Juggernaut: Darkside with a trailer. Slow, slow, slow but great armor and great special weapons.

Game modes: Other then story mode you have other modes are: (team and regular) Deathmatch, Endurance, Race, (Team and regular) Hunted, (Team and regular) Last Man Standing and Nuke mode.

Weapons: Many, many weapons.

Fire Missiles: Most common type.
Homing Missiles: Best homing ability.
Power Missiles: Most powerful missile.
Napalm: Rain fire from above.
Remote Bomb: Launch and cook for extra damage.
Shotgun: Closer you get the more damage you do. Hit the windshield for a "Point Blank" damage bonus.
Sniper Reticle Missile: Your gunner hangs out the side of the car and locks on too another car. The longer the lock on the more the damage. Get a full lock on and you get a "Head Shot." Killing the driver and destroying the car.
RC Ricochet car: A small RC car that bounces around.
Mega Guns: Pick these up and increase your standard machine gun damage and fire rate.
You also get other various side arms like a magnum revolver, sub machine gun and rocket launcher.

Physics: Each car handles like it should. Darkside moves and handles like a semi and Reaper handles amazing and is fast. Practicing with each is key too doing well off and online.

Graphics: For a game that is 5 years old it looks great. While damage isn't super detailed, cars do show signs of damage after a certain point. The Live Action cutscenes look great and actors do well their characters.

Verdict: Twisted Metal is a great game from a great series. It is just a continuation of it. It is a shame that the series itself maybe dead but it left a legacy. I give the game an A+.
