This is Watkins Glen or The Glen. This is the NASCAR course. This is track is high speed and demands greatness. Turn 1 is a passing zone. The Esees (2, 3 and 4) are fast and the penalty for getting it wrong is great. The Bus Stop (5, 6, 7 and 8) is a great passing place too. And a good spot for gaining time. There is a enough curbing too cut the corners. Turn 9 is a long sweeping downhill right hander. A fast corner that lasts forever but can help you get a run on someone in front of you. Turn 10 and 11 can be passing areas.... for the bold that is. Turn 10 more so then 11. Turn 11 just help one set up a pass toward Turn 1.
Now why is it one of my favorites? Well because it is fast yet simple. Can use the curbs too cut a few corners (T1, Bus Stop). Lap don't take very long and I've put in A LOT of laps here in games like NASCAR Thunder 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Include Forza 6 and yeah I've been around here a time or two.
This is Sonoma or Infineion or Sears Point. Pick one really. Unlike The Glen, Sonoma is slower and more on the technical side. Features elevation changes as well and plenty of passing zones. First is Turn 4B. You can out brake someone or dive bomb them. Turn 11 is another one, again out braking or dive bombing. IMHO Turn 1 sets up Turn 2 for passing. Turn 4A as well.
Why is the NASCAR version of Sonoma one of my favorites? Well I always run well here. I find the Sports Car course... bland. Like the The Glen I've logged many laps here at Sonoma. I always look forward too racing here.
My road course skills grew on courses like these. My racing skills in general grew as well.
