Dirt 4 XBOX One Review

This is the 5th installment of the Dirt series (if you include Dirt Rally). It continues the tradition of having multiple disaplines and many different vehicles too chose from. However is offers different handling models too choose from. And it is meant too reach a wider audience.

Game modes: Dirt 4 offers 4 different series too run it. Rally, Landrush, Rallycross and Historic Rally. You can race in a single event or up too 12 events (Landrush and Rallycross have rounds so less events). There is also a thing called "your stage." This lets you set the complexity and length of each stage. "Your Stage" also set the stages in the career mode.

There is also multiplayer, competitive online races (Dirt Daily, The Owners Club too name a few) Each online competition has a time limit. Two last a day, two lasts a week and one lasts a month. After word are reset. Credits are awarded based on what tier you finish in (Tier 1 through Tier 4).
There is also DirtFish. DirtFish lets you practice and learn how too drive a Rally car (remember Dirt Rally didn't have this). There is also Joyride mode. Here you can try your hand Smash Attack and Time Attack. Each require you too complete a stage (Smash Attack is smashing small objects, Time Attack is finishes as fast as possible with the aid of things either take away 1 second or add 1 second too your time. Avoid the +1 second times.) Joyride is more for fun and relaxation but still a challenge.

Career mode: This is the center of Dirt 4. Here you can drive for another team or drive for yourself. If you drive for a team you get a cut of the winnings but you will not make much money. However they pay for all repairs too the car and pay the people. If your drive for yourself you must hire the people too fix the car, must buy a car and pay the people too fix the car and get parts and such. But you can negotiate with the people you hire for a cut of the winnings (up too 9%). Your performance will also effect their mood and whether they get negative or positive traits. If their mood is good they will out-perform their base stats. If in a bad mood then they will under-perform. You can also sign sponsers too help pay the bills (up too 6 of them). But have too met targets set by them in events. If you met them you get payied, if you don't then you do not. Making or missing the targets helps or hurts your relationship with them. If you improve your relationship they will give you bonuses, if perform badly enough they will leave you, same with team members. You also help increase your team by spending money it too improve it in a variety of ways.

It is more in-depth then Dirt Rallys career mode. It is much more enjoyable and more fun. You also in some events in career mode too chose what class of car you drive. Up too 3 class can be available. Lower classes reward less prize money but sometimes if you struggle in a higher class it would be better too go too a lower class and be more competitive.

Handling model and car classes:

Dirt 4 offers 2 handling models, simulation and arcade. Simulation is more like Dirt Rally but more forgiving. It is still tough and brutal if you miss the setup or screw up. Arcade is arcade like. Reminds me of Ralli Sport Challenge 2. Still tough if you mess up and on a high difficulty level.

R2 class: Small front wheel drive rally cars. Easy too drive and learn how too drive in Dirt 4.
Ford Fiesta R2, Opel Adam R2

F2 kit cars: Front wheel drive but with more power then the R2 class. Still easy too drive.
Peugeot 306 Maxi, Seat Ibiza Kit car

Group A: Cars from the 1990's. More power and have 4 wheel drive. Based off of production models.
1999 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, 1995 Subaru Impreza, 1992 Lanica Delta HF Intagrale, 1993 Ford Escort RS Cosworth.

NR4/R4: More modern takes on a rally car based on production models. More weight but still 4 wheel drive.
2015 Subaru Impreza WRX NR4, 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X

2 Litre class: Cars have engines displacement of 2 litre or less. 300hp getting more modern. 2 of the 3 are hard too drive.
2001 Ford Focus RS Rally, 2001 Subaru Impreza, 2007 Ford Focus RS Rally

R5 class: Most modern cars in the game. As of this review I have never driven them but I suspect they aren't easy too drive.

Buggy Class: Rear wheel drive, light weight and a blast too drive. if you can keep the ass end with you.

Stadium Truck Rear Wheel drive: Lighter then the 4wd brother but fun too drive if a lot more difficult.
Jackson Pro-Truck 2

Stadium Truck 4 Wheel Drive: Power, 4 wheel drive. Hang on for dear life.

Cross Karts: Small light weight go-karts built for dirt racing. Completely suck on all level. Gamer handing model is a must.
Speedcar Xtreme

RX Super 1600s: Front wheel drive cars that are a great way too learn RX racing.
Volkswagon Polo S1600, Renault Clio R. S. S1600, Opel Corsa Super 1600

RX 2 Class: A setup from the 1600s. More power and 4 wheel drive. But hard too master. Gets your ready for the real thing.
Ford Fiesta OMSE SuperCar Lites

RX Supercars: The big boy cars. 600hp and all the crazy that comes with them. Enjoy yourself and pray for a clean lap (not likely).
Ford Focus RS RX, Peugeot 208 WRX, DS 3, Volkswagen Polo Rallycross, Ford Fiesta Rallycross, Seat Ibiza RX, MINI Countrymen Rallycross

Group B rallycross: You thought you were safe? Hell no your not. Grab onto your talent and don't let go.
Lanica Delta S4 rallycross, Ford RS 200 Evolution, Peugeot T16 Rallycross, MG Metro 6R4 Rallycross

Cross karts make another appearance here too.

Historic rally Class 1: The very first rally cars. Low power and Front Wheel drive. Easy.
Mini Cooper S, Lanica Fulvia HF

Historic rally Class 2 Front Wheel Drive: Still front wheel drive but a bit more power. But still easy.
Peugeot 205 GTI

Historic rally Class 2 Rear Wheel Drive: Now we are getting somewhere, Rear wheel Drive, more power but still old school. Might want too use the Gamer style here?
Ford Escort Mk II, Renault Alpine A110 1600 S, Fiat 131 Abarth, Opel Kadett C GT/E

Historic rally Class 3 rear wheel drive: Still getting there. More difficult and more modern. Still want too use Gamer style here?

Group B Rear Wheel Drive: Not full blown crazy but close.

Graphics and sound:

A step down from Dirt Rally but still pretty. Sounds it is still great as well. Everything is a step down from Dirt Rally but it isn't a big step down.

So...... Dirt Rally or Dirt 4?

Dirt Rally has Rally, Rallycross and Hill Climb
Dirt 4 Rally, Land Rush, Rally Cross

If Dirt 4 had Hill Climb then i'd take Dirt 4. But since each has 3 separate disciplines then it is a wash.

Dirt 4 has better physics. The cars actually feel like they have weight too them and don't feel like floating on air and rallycross is better too. While Dirt Rally is a pure racing sim and Dirt 4 is like a mix of Sim and Arcade but more toward the sim side while being arcade-like forgiving.

Dirt 4 also has a better career mode

I personally enjoy Dirt 4 more then Dirt Rally. And I give Dirt 4 a A+.
