Far Cry 5 XBOX One Review

Far Cry 5 is the 5th installment of the main series. It is also the first too take place in the United States in a Fictional place called Hope County, Montana. You play an unnamed Hope County Sheriff Department Junior Deputy tasked with stopping the Cult after the arrest of the Cults leads goes too hell.

Gameplay: Like all the previous games, FC5 is a first person shooter. It still mostly similar mechanics too Far Cry 3 and 4. However in this game can have buddies called "Guns for Hire." There also 3 animals called "Fangs for Hire." As well as 3 normal people from around Hope County. The Guns/Fangs for hire have special abilities already unlocked, while the normal ones have too hit a certain kill count too unlock them (all have 2 abilities). Also you can customize your character cars, planes and guns. Also unlike previous games each region has Resistence points too advance in each region. Once you max out the points you can fight that Regions leader. Hunting is back and as fishing too go long with it but the animals are only sold for cash. The game is also much more open too the player, letting them enter and go at their own pace. And you can take your time in Far Cry 5. You can even fly planes and helicopters in this game (which is a first.)

Characters:

The Deputy: Also called "Rook", "Rookie", "Dep". You can customize The Deputy male or female and use many different types of hats, masks and other clothing. The Deputy never speaks except for grunts and groans.

Joseph Seed: The leader of the cult Project Edens Gate. A man who truly believes that God speaks too him and that he must save as many souls as possible from The Collapse. He is a mixed bag as he shows no problem with killing but at the same time shows empathy (mis-placed empathy) at times as well. However he is a psychopath that really doesn't deserve much sympathy after he tells you how he killed his baby girl because "God told him too."

John Seed: The youngest of the Seed and is also most scary and crazy. He wants anyone and everyone too say "Yes." And he'll do whatever it takes too make people say "Yes." Also enjoy torturing and writing sins on peoples flesh and removing them forcibly. He also a skilled pilot. However his past basically made him who he is today and he is fearful of older brother Joseph.

Jacob Seed: Jacob is the oldest and served in the First Gulf War as a marksman in the Armys 82nd airborne division. As what war does it fucked Jacob up but was honorably discharged from the Army. He is PEGs head of security and trainer. He "culls the herd" by using classical condition too make people obey him. He is also very smart but very Darwinistic.

Faith Seed: No one knows who the original Faith Seed was but there as been atleast 3-4 of them. This current ones really name is Racheal Jessop. She is probably the most powerful and influential of all the Seeds. She is master liar and manipulator and is an expert on picking up on peoples weaknesses within moments of meeting them. She (along with the other Seeds) uses the Bliss too help turn people for PEGs favor. She'll get in your mind and stay there.

Sheriff Earl Whitehorse: Head of the Hope County Sheriffs Office. After the failed arrest of Joseph Seed he is taken too Faith Seeds region but escapes too the Hope County jail. After the events of the Deputy destroying Faith Seeds operation, she captures Whitehorse and takes him into the Bliss. After Faith Seeds defeat The Deputy rescues him from the Bliss before it is too late.

Deputy Staci Pratt: Deputy Pratt is taken too Jacob Seed and fall under his control. He is powerless against Jacob until the Deputy comes a rescues him.

Deputy Joey Hudson: Has been a Deputy for some time based on a story told in the game. She is taken too John Seed and is mentally tormented by him on a regular bases. She ends up freeing herself while The Deputy fights John Seed and helps him free his captives after The Deputy frees her.

Cameron Burke: A United States Federal Marshall. After repeated attempts at Whitehorse too change his mind Burke goes through with the arrest warrant for Joseph Seed and it turns out terribly. He is taken too Faith Seed and right away is buying into Faith sells. The Deputy rescues him but it is a plan by Faith too get into the Hope County Jail and kill Virgil Minkler then kills himself.

Our heros aren't deep as characters but are overall likeable. However the villians are much deeper and you feel bad for them (Faith is my personal pick for feeling bad for).

Visuals: This is game is outstanding visually. Hope County is the beautiful place too look at. Even at night is supremely pretty. Ubisoft when all out on the visuals and it shows. Montana is portraited well.

Sounds and Music: A bit of a step back on sounds in terms of the weapons but overall it is nice too not having them sound like a howitzer every time you fire one. The music on the other hand is one of if not THE best soundtrack I have ever heard in a video game. The creators did one hell of a job and got a great band (Hammock) too redo some of the songs. Just overall top notch stuff.

Voice Acting: Oh yeah nailed it here too. Nothing else much too say.

Extras: Unlike FC3 or FC4 hunting isn't used too create additional items too help the player, instead hunting is used for challenges points (and doing other things like reaching a kill count or things of the like gives a set amount of challenge points too unlock things too help the player). Hunting and fishing are used too get money too buy things in game (weapons, ammo and other items). The game is also updated rather regularly, which is good.

(Skipping the Arcade and Multiplayer modes because I've never played them)

Verdict: Overall I give the game a A-.

However the game has a very weak story. And it gives you the "option" of choice. In reality you only have 3 choices. Only one of them is good the other 2 suck. In reality this game should have had much more choice. Also the game constantly gives you things too do. Yes you can play at your own pace but you have too rescue hostages and enemies constantly spawn in.

  1. The choice too join Edens gate.
  2. The choice too either (after the John, Jacob and Faith boss fights) Arrest, Leave, Kill or Redeem the boss after their defeat.
  3. Which region you enter first gives the Deputy a different backstory.
  4. The choice too kill Joseph Seed

The endings aren't bad but the canon ending can be debated means it is weak writing. It is illusion of choice as well. FC3 and FC4 had choices. Yeah they weren't the best but atleast they had results too them. In this game you basically are 2 for 3 on getting screwed. Yes in FC2 you are going too die no matter what but at least something good would come out of your death. If the game had better writing and more choices it would been a knock out of the park A+.

The game also needed active day/night cycle (the game doesn't. Time of day moves when you move) and needed too have active weather and seasons. (Seasons not so much but active day/night cycle and active weather would have been very nice too see.)
