Far Cry PC Review and PS3 comparison

Far Cry was released in 2004 by Ubisoft. It is a First Person Shooter. A remake of the game was released in 2013 on PS3. I'll review the PC version and compare it too the PS2 version.

Plot: You play Jack Craver, a man who takes a photographer named Valerie Constantine too a bunch of old islands in the Pacific for a fee. Val takes off too look for old wrecks from Japanese WW2 ships and Jacks is attacked by Mercenaries and loses his boat. Now stranded he must fight too survive. He meets a man named Harlan Doyle who works for someone on the island. He helps Jack survive by giving him intel and locations too help items. Both work too rescue Val who is captured by the mercs. After destroying the mercs infrastructure and staying just one step behind Val Jack discovers something bad. A man by the name of Dr. Wilhelm Kreiger is experimenting on apes and turning them into monsters, lethal monsters. Craver must fight the mercs who work for Kreiger and Trigens that Kreiger made. Jack and Val do meet up and destroy one of Kreigers main compounds but are infected by the same stuff the turn apes into Trigens. He know has too find a cure for what plagues them. He finally meets up with Kreigers who is now a mutant. he defeats him and points him in Doyles direction. Carver fights through the last of the Trigens too Doyle and puts an end too him. But not before Doyle warns Carver of the "associates" that Doyle works for. Craver and Val leave the island before it is destroyed by a volcano by boat. They cure themselves and head back too the main land with a file called "Operation Farcry" with them. (A short and sweet plot summary)

Characters:
Jack Craver: A charter boat captain in the South Pacific. He has Special Forces training.

Valerie Constantine: A photo-journalist working for Exotic Magazine. She works for the CIA actually. Knows how too arm and detonate a nuke.

Harlan Doyle: A scientist who works for Kreiger. Actually too works for the CIA. Doesn't reveal too much too Jack during his time on the island until the very end.

George Wihelm Krieger: Formally a World Health Organization Scientist but disappeared 5 before the game starts.

Col. Richard Crow: A solider of fortune of unknown origin. All mercs are under his command. Jack and Crow square off a few times with Jack winning both encounters.

Weapons:

Machete: A giant knife. Use for melee only when ammo is low or out.

Falcon .357: A big handgun with a lot of stopping power. Good against trigens.

P90 SMG: Fires a lot of bullets before a reload is needed.

MP5 SMG: Silenced and deadly in the hands of a professional player. Obviously great for stealth.

M4 Assault Rifle: High rate of fire and good accuracy over medium range. Good for a the start of the game.

AG36: Same at the M4 but with a scope and underslung grenade launcher. Replaces the M4 when first found.

OICW: A modern assault rifle with a semi-auto, clip fed grenade launcher. Much better then the AG36 and replaces it.

Jackhammer Shotgun: A 10 round drum fed shotgun. Deadly at close range and against Trigens.

Sniper Rifle: Your best friend. Reach out and touch someone at long range. One shot, one kill. Has 18X zoom.

Machine Gun: Belt fed machine gun for throwing a lot of bullets down range.

Rocket Launcher: The heavy stuff, hold 4 rockets before a reload. Good against helicopters, boats and people. PS3 version homes in on helicopters.

Handgrenade: Throw'em and watch'em explode.

Stun Grenade: Good for quick escapes or disabling enemies for a quick kill.

Smoke Grenade: Cover yourself in order too escape but also effects your own vision.

Rock: Not a weapon but a distraction for enemies.

Mortar: Very slow firing mounted weapon but great for blowing crap up. Just judge the trajectory correctly and fire.

Mini-gun: Very high rate of fire weapon. Mounted some places too tear into enemies and equipment. Just make sure your not a the receiving end of it.

Items:

Binos: Zoom up too 24 times normal and listen in on enemies plans and other talking. Also lets you tag them so you can track them.

Flashlight: Need some light? Use the flashlight but it will give your position away.

Cryvision goggles: A hybrid of night and thermal goggles. Lets you see well during day and night. Good for seeing through dense jungle trees and plants.

Detonation Pack: Good for blowing up stuff in your way and the like.

Health and Armor: Pick them too restore health and armor. PS3 version lets you carry an extra health pick up on your for emergencies.

PC and PS3 comparison:

Graphics: When his game came out it was damn pretty. Draw distance in PC version is 1.2km according too the wording on the game package. Draw distance in the PS3 version is well 60%-75% of what it was in the PC version. Which I find sad because the PS3 is a good system with some beautiful games. yeah not PC powerful but come on, at least make an effort too use the full power of the PS3. Game is still pretty though.

Sound: Both games have great sound but the PS3 version has glitches. When you reload a weapon you may get some but not all of the sound. But the next time you reload you get everything. Even some explosions aren't there either.

Difficulty: The PC version is hard but beatable. The PC version also let you have adaptable AI turned on or off. I really didn't notice a difference. For the PS3 version they made easy.... er. Almost too easy. I find the PC version difficulty too be perfect and rewarding.

Stealth: The PC version it is possible too stealthy. Hiding in bushes and plants help keep you hiding, allowing you too get close too enemies. The PS3 version for some reason it is a lot harder too keep hidden.

The PC version is better overall. If you can't get a PC version then the PS3 version will do. It is a great game overall and worth playing. PC version gets A-. And the PS3 verison gets a B.
