In light of recent events, this deserves a second crack at. Considering the players at play.
My first post: First blog post
8. The USGA itself: I'm not going too pull punches here, the USGA are a bunch of clowns period. They really have no idea how too run the US Open. Not only are the officials arrogant, management is too. When explaining what happened too Dustin Johnson on the 5th hole at Oakmont, said rules official came across too all watching on National TV as rude and arrogant. Even after that when explaining the penalty still came across as such. Seriously what the hell? And they notified him of the "possible" penalty about an hour and a half later even after one of their own rules officials was called by DJ too rule on it and he did. And the rules official said "play on your fine." So basically the USGA thinks DJ lied openly and question his word. Well hell is the USGAs problem? Only thing wrong here is the USGAs arrogance and complete lack of integrity.
I'd also like too point out how Oakmont was set up. I do realize the US Open is supposed too separate the men from the boys. But when your greens are running 14 on the stemp meter then you have problems. Former US Open champ Johnny Miller once said about US Open greens "it is like trying too land on the roof of a VW Beetle." Well that is fine but when you hit a great shot and aren't rewarded for such then there is problems. Yes i do realize that i have stated in my previous blog that greens should be like Teflon. But there is a limit for heavens sake. 2015 at Chambers Bay most players were complaining about how Chambers Bay was set up. Even in 2014 Pinehurst wasn't set up right. It seems too me the USGA has more of an issue with players then they do running Americas National Championship. After the 2011 US Open when Rory Mcllroy pretty much layied waste too the field at Congressional County Club (after it rained) the USGA wasn't happy at all. Yeah well blame mother nature you fuck turds and blame the field for not showing up. I'll give the winning scores for the US Open since 2006:
2006: 285 (+5)
2007: 285 (+5)
2008: 283 (-1)
2009: 276 (-4)
2010: 284 (E)
2011: 268 (-16)
2012: 281 (+1)
2013: 281 (+1)
2014: 271 (-9)
2015: 275 (-5)
2016: 280 (-4)
It has been the USGA goal too make the finishing 72 hole score of E or worse. Hate too say but based those numbers they fail at that. -16 that has too sting doesn't it?
Lastly the USGA needs too just focus running amateur events only. That is about only thing they should be doing. They shouldn't run Americas national championship. Because they have a history of making it about them and not about anything else. However considering their history with the US Open, i'm highly certain they'd find someway too screw up that up too.
9. The rule book: With all due respect too the founding principles of golf. I really think it is time for the whole brand new rule book. After the most recent US Open, golf as a black eye, lessened credibility and integrity. And all has too stem from a rule book that is just about as old as golf itself. Also their are too many governing bodies. USGA, R&A and the PGA (which owe Dustin Johnson a major). There needs too be one rule enforcing body in golf, not 3. One big overall governing body should in in charge of putting the rules into place and enforcing them. Regardless of who run the tournament. I would say the PGA Tour should but they aren't as big in the grand scheme of things.
As i stated previously i think the rule book should be re-done. It should have simple, no grey area rules. What the rule is is what the rule is. In this case, i'd like for the players themselves too be in the process of making the rules. Since well they have more honor and will call it on themselves. I wouldn't get rid of rules officials completely. They'd still play a part in on course rulings in case of confusion. But overall a simpler, less complex, easier and a hell of a lot less wordy rule book is needed.
I may amend this in case of another vast screw up in the future.
