Burnout 3: Takedown Review

The Burnout series has been since 2001. The series didn't gain mass acclaim until Burnout 3: Takedown was released in 2004. This review is about such game that gave the series such acclaim.

Gameplay: B3T features 4 basic gameplay mods:
Race: Be the first too cross the finish line...... by any means necessary.
Road Rage: Destroy as many cars as possible within the time limit (3 minutes is all you get)
Time Attack: Beat a course time without going over the time limit.
Crash Mode: Want too destroy a lot cars? This is the mode for you. You even get money. The more you wreck the more you make!

The bulk of the game however is built into the "World Tour" mode. Travel too the US, Europe and Asia. There are 173 events (100 crash and 73 racing). If you finish first in anything you earn a Gold Metal, 2nd place earned Silver and 3rd earns Bronze. As you play WT mode you unlock more cars by earning Takedowns and burnout points. As well as Crash $ in the Crash events on WT mode. You will more likely complete the race section of WT mode first, leaving only the crash events.

Locations in World Tour are as follows:
USA: Silver Lake (North and South), Downtown (North and South), Waterfront (East and West), King of the Road (Easy and West), Lakeside Getaway (North and South), Mountain Parkway (East and West)
Europe: Winter City (East and West), Vineyard (North and South), Alpine (North and South), Alpine Expressway (East and West), Riviera (North and South), Frozen Peak (North and South), Continental Run (East and West), Coastal Dream (North and South)
Far East: Golden City (North and South), Dockside (North and South), Island Paradise (North and South), Tropical Drive (South and West)
Each location in World Tour mode are based off of real world locations. USA is in Utah, Europe is in Italy and Far East is in China.

While racing (or in crash events) when some bad happens (usually does) and wreck yourself or get wrecked you'll enter "Crash aftertouch." Were you can steer your wreck into other cars, earning more takedowns, burnout points and money. Time allowed is limited so use it wisely. While racing when you takedown someone you earn a segment too your boost bar for up too 4 segments. When you wreck either yourself or by the CPU you'll lose a segment.

Graphics: Even though this game is 12 years old. It STILL looks fantastic. Speed effects are amazing and even though it isn't as polished like a modern game is. It still has great quality about it. There are limits of course but it still looks fantastic.

Difficulty: Wouldn't say the game is difficult. However there can be times when a CPU car is so far out in front in a race that you can not catch back up. Road Rage is possibly the most difficult mode in the game, due too how aggressive the CPU can be.

Sound: Sound is fantastic. Cars, crashes all sound good. Even when things go "boom" it sounds good. Even the rockin sound track sounds great.

Classes of cars: There are 6 classes of cars in B3T.
The first is the "Compact" class. These are slowest cars in the game but great for getting the feel of racing and driving.
The second is "Muscle" class. The Cars are a little bit faster then Compact class but weigh a lot more. Not all cars in this class are heavy but are heavier then compact class.
The third is the "Coupe" class. Cars here are faster and lighter then Muscle class. You are starting too get into classes in which speeds are over 175mph.
The fourth class is "Sports" class. Lighter and faster then the Coupes. Faster speed equal fast reaction times.
The Fifth class is the "Super" class. Cars here can easily reach 200mph and are among the lightest cars in the game.
The last class is what i call a "Special" class. Cars here are cars that can not be raced unless in the Race mode. Various cars like SUVs, open wheel cars and even a bus. These are unlocked as you earn Burnout Points and Takedowns in the World Tour mode.

Overall Opinion: This arcade racer is one of the best racing games ever made. Even today it stands the test of 12 years and still has a loyal following. It is highly addictive and you can easily play 2+ hours and not even realise it. This game should be in any ones collection. I give this game an A+. It is as close too perfection as one can get in gaming, especially in the racing genre.
